Hollywood is an incredibly fickle place – names get attached to scripts all the time both in front and behind the camera. Someone’s turning down a role could be someone else’s big break. With the higher push for diversity and authenticity, many casting directors are forced to drop people as well, in order to prevent a backlash before the feature has actually begun filming similar to Ed Skrein, seemingly on his own accord, stepping down from his role in Hellboy. I personally do not agree with the current pressure on the industry as it doesn’t foster creativity; on the contrary, it stifles it. However, I’d like to focus on the positives in this article so let’s talk about some great rumours which, fingers crossed, would become true.
1. Stan Lee could cameo in the non-Marvel Spawn movie
The film’s director and creator Todd MacFarlane is excited about the possibility and unlike Stan’s most other Marvel reincarnations this would not be a PG 13/12A one but a hard R rated/15 or 18 in the UK.
2. Lucy, the sequel is not happening – according to director Luc Besson
“For the record: No I’m not preparing Lucy 2. Neither yesterday nor tomorrow.” – said Besson. Perhaps he agrees with me that the flick was a flop and should be left to die.
3. Does Obi-Wan standalone film working title Joshua Tree mean it would take place on Tatooine?
I’m super excited about this one as it’s one of my favourite Star Wars characters and I truly hope that the botanical name, which is a desert tree could be a reference to the sandy landscape of Luke Skywalker’s home planet.
4. Can Jackie Chan & Christ Tucker handle Rush Hour 4?
Some may say Tucker might still be in his prime but considering Chan’s age (63) and the highly-demanding stunts the previous parts required would he still be able to pull it off without cracking a rib? – Well. I surely hope so! Don’t get me wrong, he’s certainly managed in the not-so-distant past but the more you’re out of practice the harder it gets and it’s been over 10 years since Rush Hour 3.
5. Black Mirror Movie – Yes, please!
This is probably the one I’ll be most excited about. I do agree that the episodes have almost feature-length, but I feel like so much more could be done with Chalie Brokker’s masterpieces. Nevertheless, he doesn’t seem to think this way: “And plus we don’t have the development hell that all movies end up going through. We have the opposite problem in a way, we have breakneck speed and we have to make six films a year effectively, is the way we look at it—which is a good problem to have. If a story idea presented itself that required like a $300 million budget and a two-hour runtime then maybe, but otherwise we do feel like we’re making a mini film festival with each season. So it’s hard to see what would make us stop doing that.” – I read a maybe in that and who knows with the right offer he might not be able to say no.
