We all love the comfort of returning to a classic, it’s like a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter’s night. Perhaps, it’s because it gives us the power of knowing the future, in other words, the film’s ending, or maybe even more so because it reminds us of the way we felt the first time we watched it. It’s almost like a mini time-travel device that brings us back to moments of laughter, joy, and sometimes fear and drama, when we’re up for that kind of thing, of course 😀
But with remakes happening left, right and centre, what if your favourite classic was actually being re-cast right now? Would you go see it and would the best stars of today ever come close to the original?
Honestly, who would know and even the bravest of actors usually steer clear of productions that would require them to fill the large and ultra-famous shoes of some universally beloved Hollywood faces.
So, just for fun, let’s imagine that these classics are in fact being cast today, who would play the lead parts? And we don’t need to imagine a lot, because someone (BetVictor) has already invented an algorithm that calculates exactly that and it’s based on 3 main factors: Age & Experience, Film Quality (taken from average Rotten Tomatoes score and the actor’s individual award wins and nominations), and their Career DNA through their IMDB pages, genre tags attached, number of credits behind their name, box office intake, etc.
For more details on how exactly these estimations were made, hop off to their blog https://blog.betvictor.com/campaigns/classic-films-present-day/, but here are some notable mentions:
- Pulp Fiction with Jennifer Aniston, Tiffany Haddish, and Maisie Williams in place of John Travolta, Samuel Jackson, and Uma Thurman
- Titanic starring Chris Evans and Cynthia Erivo replacing Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Jack and Rose
- Scarface with Jessica Chastain and Tom Holland instead of Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer
- Casablanca with Michael Fassbender, KiKi Layne and Zac Efron taking the spots of Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid
It’s not certain any of these would ever be made, because let’s face it – they’re classics for a reason, it would be nearly impossible to recreate them, forget about reimagining them in a newer and better way… And what’s more, would any of these actors even entertain the notion of taking a stab at it?
