Today is the day! There’s exactly one month until the Oscars and the competition to who will get to bring the little golden bald-headed men home is heating up!
For anyone interested, there’s the full list of nominees below.
BetVictor have done the maths for us and have published their odds for the awards ceremony on April 26, with Nomadland almost a shoo-in to win Best Picture with 2/5. Chloe Zhao is the one most likely to grab the Best Director accolade at 1/10. Next, Carey Mulligan looks set to win the Best Leading Actress award for her role in Promising Young Woman at 8/11 with Chadwick Boseman at a staggering 1/16 to win Best Leading Actor posthumously.
The always glitzy and star-studded event has already gathered a lot of buzz due to this year’s many record-breaking nominations:
- The First Nomination for an Easter European Actor Since 1967
- Female Directors Break Record for Most Nominations in One Year
- First Muslim and First Asian American Nominations in the Best Actor Category
- Record Nominations for Women in general
- Mank Is the Seventh Black-and-White Film Nominated
- Viola Davis Becomes Most Nominated Black Actress in Oscars History
- Netflix Approaches Distributor Nomination Record
One of the biggest surprises is dazzling newcomer Maria Bakalova’s strong 50% chance of a win prediction for Best Supporting Actress comparing to the much lower numbers for the other actresses in the category. This would be the FIRST EVER win (and actually also a nomination) for a Bulgarian actor. I mean, Borat 2 should get an award just for the longest film title in the history of cinema (strictly speaking that’s not entirely what Mr. Google tells me, but at least let’s say the longest this year 🙂 )
